Wow!  2 Years Old!  Our baby boy is 2 years old today!  It's gone by so fast and I can honestly say that we have the sweetest, most wonderful 2 year old I know.  He's such a happy boy, and sweet, and smart, and energetic, and I could go on all day long.  And I really can't call him a baby any more either.  He's a little boy... a little person.

We had his birthday party yesterday at the house and had so much fun.  We were lucky and got perfect outdoor weather, allowing all the kids to run and play in the backyard.  The new tetherball we put up was a hit, as was the swing.  A lot of the kids had fun just running laps around our little backyard storage shed (commonly referred to as the bunker).  Kids are so easily amused.  And let me tell you what else... my boy has game!  He gave a big hug and kiss (on the lips) to his future girlfriend T.  He then proceeded to steal the truck and leave her crying as he drove away.  He knew what he was doing; find what he wants, distract the ladies with some sugar, make his getaway.  It was the cutest, funniest thing I've seen in a long time.

The only thing that worries me is how E wanted to blow out his candles.  When his cake came out and everyone sang him "Happy Birthday", he applauded the wonderful singing, he asked the crowd for more, and then he thought it would be better to put out the fire with his hands instead of by blowing them out.  Although I'm impressed that not even fire can scare him (he is completely fearless), I'd prefer if he just put out candles the conventional way.  We will work on that one for next year.

Happy Birthday to Our Super Wonderful Son!  We love you!!!!!

It was a weekend of highs and lows.  My high was Saturday when I decided to take E to the library.  I thought they had story time at 10:15am but turns out that is only during the week.  Oh well.  We decided to stay in the children's section and read books on some really cool chairs.  The library was really nice, as was the children's section with just one small flaw... the children's section was completely open and in the center of the library.  All other sections seemed were strategically located around the children's section.  To me this seems like a bad idea but apparently it must work for some people.

E was having so much fun.  He'd grab a book, read it (loudly), put it back and get another to bring to the kid chairs, repeat.  Most of his reading consisted of him SHOUTING, "Car car truck, car truck.  Woof woof. Turtle. Fruit."  On his third book, a library employee came over and said, "Wow! He's really excited, huh?"  I said, "Yes, he loves to read."  The librarian replied, "Do you think he can read in his 'library voice'?".  I responded back, "We'll try our best."

After 5 more minutes and nonstop shushing (unsuccessfully I might add), the librarian came back and said, "You know, there are people here who are really trying to concentrate."  I knew that was coming so I apologized and we left.  We were probably inside for less than 10 minutes so I didn't feel too bad.  We got out quick and went to a nearby park, climbed on the playground and watched kids playing soccer.  Way more fun than a stuffy library and E got to shout as loud as he wanted and made a few friends in the process.  It was a great Saturday morning.  We also had a great Saturday evening bbq with friends, fun and football.

Low of the weekend was the time change.  E did not get the memo.  Hopefully he'll figure it out quickly, otherwise I'll be drinking a lot more coffee this week.

We had a busy and fun-filled weekend.  We went to a local Brewery Open House, attended a Halloween Party at the Frank Erwin Center for UT, and took a bubble bath (with surprising results).  E is spending his Halloween as Tigger this year.  He won't put on the hood of his costume, but he is still the cutest Tigger I've ever seen.  And I think others agree, especially when he flashes his killer smile.  He did a lot that this weekend, lots of smiling.  Here are some highlights and lessons learned...

  • When attending any outdoor events, we will now always bring a tennis ball.  At the brewery on Saturday, E made many friends by playing catch or just throwing the ball at random people and then smiling.
  • Diamonds may be a girls best friend, but we are fast learning that dirt is a boy's best friend.  E loves to play in dirt at every opportunity.  If you include a stick to spread the dirt around, he can entertain himself for hours.
  • Just because it's in a see-through cup, looks like apple juice, and is being consumed by adults... it is not juice, will never be juice, and E cannot have any.  Sorry bud.
  • Playing Halloween games where you put a face on a felt pumpkin or pin the tail on werewolf is only fun if you can knock it to the ground when you're done.
  • E will not enter a bounce house unless one of us goes with him.
  • E is terrified, and I mean TERRIFIED of bubbles in his bath.  We gave him his first bath with Mr. Bubbles expecting a whole new level of bathtime fun.  He was excited when he first saw them, but when he got in the tub, he didn't want the bubbles to touch him and refused to sit down.  To ease him into it, we put the bubbles on his belly and his head.  He tried to push them off, started to cry and climbed out the tub while clutching on to us for dear life.  It was the shortest bath ever!

Hope you enjoy the new pics we uploaded (including the Tigger costume). Hope everyone has a happy and safe Halloween!!!
